Help & Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the State of Tennessee Abandoned Vehicle Portal.

How do I find my towed or impounded vehicle?
Use the search bar on the home page to search by your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or license plate number. Results are free and available without creating an account.
What information will I see in search results?
Search results include the vehicle description, the towing company's name and contact information, the storage location, the company's daily storage rate, accepted payment methods, and any scheduled sale or disposal date. The amount due to reclaim the vehicle comes from the towing company.
How do I get my vehicle back?
Contact the towing company listed on the vehicle notice directly. They will provide instructions on payment and vehicle release. You will need to bring valid identification and proof of ownership.
What if I can't find my vehicle in the system?
Not all vehicles are listed immediately. If your vehicle was recently towed, check back in 24-48 hours. You can also contact the local towing company or law enforcement agency that may have towed your vehicle.
How do I dispute the fees listed on a notice?
Fee disputes should be directed to the towing company listed on the notice. If you believe the tow was unlawful, you may also contact local law enforcement or seek legal counsel.
What does it mean when a vehicle is 'Ready for Sale'?
This means the statutory notification period has elapsed and the vehicle may be sold or disposed of by the towing company. If this is your vehicle, contact the towing company immediately to arrange retrieval before the sale date.
I received a mail notice about my vehicle. What should I do?
The notice contains details about where your vehicle is stored and how to reclaim it. Contact the towing company listed in the notice as soon as possible to avoid additional storage fees or disposal of the vehicle.
Is there a cost to search this portal?
No. Searching for vehicles on this portal is completely free and does not require an account.
I run a towing company. How do I get an account?
Enroll your company from the sign-in page. You give the kind of publisher, its name and your work email, confirm the address from the link we send, then describe the company and upload its business license (or agency authorization for law enforcement). The State reviews the enrollment before the company can post. Staff of a company that is already enrolled do not enroll again: the company's manager invites them from the Team page.
I asked for a sign-in link and nothing arrived. What now?
Look in your spam or junk folder and mark the message as safe so the next one lands in your inbox. Links go only to addresses that already have an account or an open invitation, so check that you used your work address and that your company has enrolled. If you set a password, you can sign in with it instead of waiting for a link.
